Honoring Putnam, Connecticut native and Medal of Honor Recipient Henry Breault
The Connecticut Native has worked alongside U.S.Navy veteran, former Submariner and Connecticut resident Ryan Walker in support of an effort to name a future Virginia-class submarine in honor of Henry Breault — the first and only enlisted submarine to be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.
Breault was recognized for his extraordinary bravery after risking his own life to save a fellow crew member following the sinking of the USS O-5 in 1923.
The campaign carries particular significance for Connecticut, where Virginia-class submarines are constructed by General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton.
Naming one of these vessels for Breault would honor both his heroism and Connecticut’s longstanding connection to the United States submarine force.
Through its coverage and collaboration with Walker, The Connecticut Native has helped raise awareness of Breault’s remarkable story and the continuing effort to ensure that his courage and sacrifice receive lasting national recognition.
